Map - from other part of the course

"Zero streets" - reference point for all address numbers

Block ranges - indicator on map of address ranges
Process -
- Break down address into components
- Locate street on map (from other part of the course)
- Locate address number on street using block range
Principles (or rules of thumb??)
- All address numbers increase from the zero street out
- Usually the odd numbers are on one side and the even numbers on the other
- Usually the odd numbers are on the west and south sides of the street
- The hundreds and greater positions in the address number represent the number of streets away from the zero street. 5324 E Main says that the location is 53 blocks east of the zero street
- When there are numbered streets the addresses usually fit into the street number scheme. E. g., the address number 3524 is between 35th and 36th street.
Sometimes the zero street is up against a geographical border like a river or coast. In this case the addresses increase in only one direction.- These are typical rules only in the US, and even then there are exceptions, especially in smaller and older towns on the east coast.
